Roofing Materials
TPO Membrane
TPO is a white plastic sheet whose seams are welded with hot air into one continuous skin, and the white surface pushes summer heat back off the building.
What It Is
The most installed commercial flat roof in the country right now. Heat welded seams are as strong as the sheet itself, which is the main reason it displaced the tape seamed systems.
Where It Wins
- Welded seams are stronger than taped or glued ones
- Reflects heat, which lowers cooling cost on a flat building
- Resists grease and chemicals better than rubber
Where It Does Not
- Quality varies between manufacturers more than it should
- White shows every bit of dirt, though that is cosmetic
- A bad weld looks exactly like a good one until it opens
In the Quad Cities
The default for commercial work in Davenport, Bettendorf and Moline. On a house it suits a flat garage or addition roof where summer heat into the room below is a complaint.
