Roofing Materials
PVC Membrane
PVC is the membrane to use where grease, oil or chemicals land on the roof, which in practice means over a kitchen.
What It Is
Heat welded like TPO, with a chemical makeup that shrugs off animal fats and petroleum. Restaurant exhaust destroys most other membranes and does very little to this one.
Where It Wins
- Stands up to grease and chemical exposure
- Welded seams, same strength advantage as TPO
- Very good fire performance
Where It Does Not
- The most expensive single ply option
- Older formulations got brittle with age, which the newer ones addressed
In the Quad Cities
If you own a restaurant anywhere in the Quad Cities, this is the roof over your kitchen, and putting anything else there is a short term saving.
