Roofing Materials

Spray Polyurethane Foam

Spray foam is sprayed on as a liquid and rises into a seamless insulated roof with no joints anywhere, and it can be recoated every ten years more or less forever.

What It Is

Two chemicals mixed at the nozzle expand into rigid foam that sticks to the existing roof, flows over every curb and pipe, and is then coated with a protective elastomeric layer.

Where It Wins

  • No seams at all, which removes the usual point of failure
  • Adds real insulation while it roofs
  • Can be sprayed over an existing roof, so no tear off
  • Recoat every ten to fifteen years and it renews

Where It Does Not

  • Everything depends on the applicator, more than any other system
  • Overspray on a windy day reaches cars two lots away
  • Needs dry weather and a narrow temperature window to apply
  • The coating is not optional and it is a maintenance commitment

In the Quad Cities

Good on a large commercial roof with a lot of penetrations and rising cooling bills. Not the first answer for a house.
