Roofing Materials
Concrete Tile
Concrete tile costs less than clay and weighs more, which is the trade at the heart of choosing between them.

What It Is
Molded cement colored through or surface coated. Cheaper than clay, heavier than clay, and heavier again once it has absorbed rain.
Where It Wins
- Long life for a fraction of the cost of slate
- Made in profiles that copy shake, slate or barrel tile
- Fireproof
Where It Does Not
- The heaviest common roofing material, wet weight higher still
- Surface colored tiles fade where through colored ones do not
- Absorbs water, which matters in a freezing climate
In the Quad Cities
Rare in the Quad Cities and there are good reasons for that. If a house here already carries it the structure is proven, which makes replacing like with like straightforward.
