Roofing Materials
Aluminum Roofing
Aluminum does not rust at all, which makes it the metal of choice near salt air and a reasonable one anywhere you want the lightest possible roof.

What It Is
Same systems as steel, different metal. Aluminum cannot rust, so a scratch that would eventually bite a steel panel does nothing here. It is softer, so it dents more easily.
Where It Wins
- Immune to rust, permanently
- The lightest metal roof available
- Takes a factory finish very well
Where It Does Not
- Dents from hail more readily than steel
- Moves more with temperature, so the detailing has to allow for it
- Costs more than steel for the same shape
In the Quad Cities
Steel is usually the better buy this far from an ocean. Aluminum earns its place where weight is the constraint.
